Have I mentioned that I absolutely love what I do? Thank you The Royal Court Arts and Crafts for wanting me to create content for you! You are all so wonderful to work with! This piece made my heart smile in a huge way… It started out as a plain Jane (last pic is proof). Between the orange oak exterior and the hardware that could not be removed, I thought oh what in the fresh he\\ did I acquire. Then I really looked at the piece and thought oh my goodness if I age the piece (it was already quite old so that part wasn’t hard ) it would actually help it greatly. So I focused on the hardware which by the way is wood, not metal… I immediately wanted to showcase the wood grain so I applied a paint wash to the entire piece from top to bottom. (video coming on this technique toward the end of the week) I used Dixie Belle Paint Company’s chalk mineral paint Coffee bean which is a very dark brown and washed it over the orangey oak. This eradicated the outdated orange and gave it a rustic farmhouse cottage look.Continuing with the rustic farmhouse cottage theme I decoupaged the recessed sides of the dresser with Paper Designs WashiPaper (Victorian) which is a patterned rice paper on a roll (150cm x 45cm). This paper was the perfect design for the farmhouse look and the blue paper with a purple undertone contrasted beautifully against the dark brown paint wash. I love the WashiPaper rolls because they are so versatile! You can use it on one piece or it can stretch out to multiple pieces! I have plenty left for another piece! I employed my go to Pentart products for this piece. I used their decoupage varnish and glue to apply and seal the paper, bronze wax paste to add just the tiniest hints of metallic to the keyholes and antiquing gel in umber to lend a vintage look to the rice paper.
