When Decoupage Queen asked me to create content for their large format rice paper I was over the moon with excitement!!! Then I got the opportunity to choose which images I wanted to work with. The moment I saw this Sugar Magnolia rice paper I knew I had to have it! I couldn’t wait to get started!!!
I wasn’t sure if it would fit on the French provincial I had that was waiting for it’s upcycle, but I was hopeful! And the minute it came in the happy mail I took it out of its package and put it up against the dresser… it was an exact fit width wise and I thought an exact fit length wise… Check out the caption on pic number 5 for that little story!
I love how this piece went from outdated French Provincial to an elegant Boho Chic showstopper with the help of several products! I applied and sealed the Decoupage Queen large format rice paper with my go to Pentart decoupage varnish and glue in matte finish. I also used their Graphite wax paste (which is a silvery blue) to pop the detail of the original hardware. I painted the body of the piece using Dixie Belle Paint Company chalk mineral paint In the Navy which is a deep rich navy blue. I chose this particular color because it framed the bold and beautiful image of the rice paper perfectly…
Oh and check out pic number 4 for my surprise element! I used Re·design with Prima’s stamp and black permanent ink to create a surprise worthy of such a gorgeous boho inspired piece!
I absolutely loved reimagining this piece! Boho design can feel a bit overwhelming for some folks. If you are working with a large or bold pattern, the key is to surround it with a rich deep color to bring a sense of balance to the design.
